Tips
1. Learn Anatomy: Anatomy is the foundation for everything! Learn it well and you’ll be much more prepared for your AT education.
2. Time Management Skills: As an AT student you will be really busy, so make sure you figure out how to manage your time wisely.
3. Get along with preceptors: Getting along with your preceptors is key to a good clinical experience.
4. Get to know the staff: You will be working with other staff that are non-AT! Get to know them and network with them. You never know when they can help you!
5. Don’t be shy & have confidence: Never be shy or awkward in the training room, try to maximize your patient interaction as much as possible.
6. Ask questions: The more you ask, the more you learn!
7. Never waste your time: Always learn or study, always be on the move! Never do nothing.
8. Food situation: Figure out when and where you will be eating or getting food.
9. Extra clothes: ALWAYS HAVE EXTRA CLOTHES!
10. Find something outside AT: Find stuff to do outside your AT life! It’s always nice to relax and refresh your mind.
I’m a freshman at Grand Canyon University studying to get into the athletic training program here! Thanks for the tips!
I’m a senior in high school and you’re videos are really helpful to me! Like I am so interested in pursuing this career!
In my high school we use the term Doc instead of preceptor
Supper helpful thx!
Football was definitely intense in undergrad. I would get up for work at 4:30am start at 6am. Work until 1pm. Go to campus for 2 classes then run to internship. I’d be there until after 11pm. By the time I got to sleep it would be midnight. I honestly don’t know how I made it lol.
